Seals are members of the family Phocidae of the suborder Pinnipedia. All seals are marine mammals that swim and dive easily. They feed on fish, crustacea, mollusks and some sea birds. Their enemies include man, killer whales and polar bears and sharks. Their young are born on land.

These seals have no external ear such as the Sea Lion and their hind flippers cannot be turned forward making their movement on land a wriggling motion. Slippery might be a Harbor Seal (Common Seal) (Phoca vitulina). These seals are about 5 feet long. They are gray or brown in color, some spotted. They have an extensive range from the Arctic to along both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of North America.
