The Angus is a breed of black, polled (having no horns) beef cattle, for many years known as Aberdeen Angus, due to the fact that it originated in the county of Aberdeen, Scot. Coming from an obscure ancestry, the breed was improved and its characteristics fixed early in the19th century by a number of breeders, two of whom were Hugh Watson and William McCombie.

Angus are black in color, have a polled head (no horns), are compact and have a low set body. The Angus ranks very highly among beef breeds and for years purebred or crossbred Angus steers have held high places of honor at the leading fat stock shows in Great Britain and the United States. This breed was introduced into the United States in 1873 and since then its influence has spread widely.
