These two large Komodo Dragon stuffed animals are made by Wild Republic. You can find the grey one on our sponsor's website: Jeannie's Cottage LLC. The Red Cuddlekins Komodo has been discontinued. The smaller komodo is a Ty Beanie Baby named Bali. He is also at Jeannie's Cottage. The Komodo Dragon, Varanus komodoensis, is one of the heaviest lizards in the world. It can reach a length of 10 feet and weigh 200 pounds. Females are smaller. They are reddish brown, grey or black in color.

As with all monitor lizards, the Komodo is a good swimmer. They are also fast on land and can climb trees. They have a keen sense of smell.

With teeth like a shark and a highly flexible skullreal_komodo_dragon these lizards are able to swallow large pieces of food. Due to having a mouth full of bacteria, any prey that survives an attack will die later of infection.

These large lizards are meat eaters and will eat anything they can overpower, which includes each other in addition to pigs, deer and an occasional water buffalo. They can also kill human beings. They also eat carrion.

The distribution of Komodo dragons is restricted to Indonesia's Lesser Sunda Islands of Rinca, Komodo, Flores as well as the smaller islands of Gili, Montang and Padar.    Komodo National Park makes up all islands except Flores. The islands are volcanic and arid. They have an average annual temperature of about 80 degrees F.

Komodo dragons are generally solitary animals but will come together during the breeding season. They live in burrows. Their lifespan is from 20 to 40 years.

The female wild dragons lay their clutch of up to 30 eggs in the nest mound of a brush turkey. The hatchlings are approximately 15 inches long and weigh about 3.5 ounces.

There are about 3000 to 5000 individuals living in the wild. This lizard is considered endangered.
