The Wombat

The Wombat stuffed animals, shown above, are very realistic. One is a Folkmanis Wombat Hand Puppet and the other is Toowoomba, a plush toy wombat made by Douglas. The smallest one is an Animal Planet Wombat. Check our sponsor's online Gift Shop to see if there are some in stock.

Wombats live in Australia. They are diggers like the Badger. Their burrows have a nest at the end. The average size of the burrow is about 15 feet, but they can dig burrows up to 100 feet long. The wombat's sturdy limbs are equipped with stout claws, perfect for digging.

This little animal is about 4 feet long and weighs on average 80 pounds. It is a vegetarian and ambles about at night looking for grasses, roots and tree bark. Wombats make good pets and will eat all kinds of vegetables. Its voice is a harsh cough. The colors can be almost black to yellowish.

Wombats are solitary creatures and long lived, living up to 30 years. Their breeding season is from April to June. The mother has one baby that she carries around in her pouch. Wombats are marsupials.
