The Blue Grosbeak (Guiraca caerulea) is a small bird (6-3/4 inches) that is overall blue with brown wingbars. It is similar to the Indigo Bunting. The female is brown with buff colored wing bars. This sparrow-sized bird inhabits brushy locales and thickets along rivers.

It feeds on seeds and insects. The nest is a loose cup of plant material in a tree or bush. The female lays three to four pale blue eggs. It has a slow warbling song but the call is a "chink or klink."
