The Blue-fronted amazon_parrotAmazon is a large parrot (14 inches) that is mostly green with a yellow face; the forehead and lores are blue. The wings are edged with red and the tips blue. The beak and feet are grey.

These birds of South America prefer forested areas, woodlands, palm groves and open savannas. They can be found in pairs or small groups in the tops of trees, feeding or resting. The diet consists of fruits, seeds, nuts, flowers and berries. If alarmed they can be very vocal and screech loudly.

The breeding takes place from October to March. Nests in the hollow of a tree, same nest used every year. There are 3 to 4, occasionally 5 eggs; incubation is 26 days; fledging period 60 days. They have a lifespan of from 80 to 100 years in captivity.
